This article is about importance and uses of honey. Honey has been used since prehistoric time. People were very much dependent upon honey as medicine and essential nutritive diet.

Honey is prepared by honeybees that belong to genus Apis. Four species of honeybees are reported, Apis dorsata, A. indica, A. florea and A. mellifera.

Honey is plant product of high nutritive value. It contains about 80% sugar. It is not a direct plant product because the nectar, pollen grains and cane sugar is collected by the bees in their crops where it gets mixed with saliva, containing certain enzymes and undergoes chemical changes due to enzyme action. At this stage cane sugar (sucrose) is converted into dextrose and levulose and some ingredients of bees also added to the mixture to reduce the water content. The whole mixture is then collected in the honey sac (crop) until it reaches the hive. As the honeybee reaches the hive this compound is regurgitated in the hive cell and is known as honey.

Too early to send experimental Ebola drug to Africa – Obama says

US President, Barack Obama said yesterday August 6th that it's too early to send the unapproved experimental drug, Zmapp serum to Africa where the outbreak of the Ebola virus has recorded more deaths and threatens human existence.

 

Zmapp serum has proven to be effective in treating Ebola cases as two American doctor infected with the virus in Liberia are currently being treated in the US and are said to have improved after the use of the drug. Continue...

 

According to AFP, President Obama suggested that affected African countries should focus more on building strong public infrastructures.

"I think we have to let the scientist guide us. And I don’t think all the information is in on whether this drug is helpful".

On whether he would help fast track the approval of the drug should medical experts conclude that the drug is effective, President Obama said;

 "I think it’s premature for me to say that because I don’t have enough information. I don’t have enough data right now to offer an opinion on that.”

While stressing that the deadly virus is not airborne, Obama said 

"the countries affected are the first to admit that what’s happened here is the public health systems have been overwhelmed. They weren’t able to identify and then isolate cases quickly enough. As a consequence, it spread more rapidly than has been typical with the periodic Ebola outbreaks that occurred previously."

He said the US is currently working with their European partners as well as the World Health Organization to provide resources to contain the virus.

Barca can't play in La Liga if Catalunya gets independence - LFP president

Javier Tebas says that an "inter-state" agreement would have to be reached in order for the Blaugrana to continue participating in the Primera Division

The Spanish Football League (LFP) president has insisted that Barcelona will no longer be able to compete in La Liga if Catalunya gets independence.

The region has long campaigned for separatism from the rest of the country due to their cultural and linguistic differences.

Barca have long been a symbol of Catalan independence but LFP chief Javier Tebas says that they would not be able to continue in the Spanish football system under current regulations.

"I don't like to speculate about impossibilities. Catalunya will always be Spain," he is quoted as saying by AS.

"And I'm not only worried about Barcelona, but Nastic, Girona, Espanol, Llagostera and Sabadell. If the Sports Act remains the same, they could not compete in our league.

"We would have to change the Sports Act. Andorra, for example, play in our competitions because the law specifically states they can. There's an additional provision.

"Initially, Barcelona could not compete in La Liga unless there is an inter-that state agreement."
