Amazing Auctions Let You Buy iPads and Other Electronics for Under $40

Amazing Auctions Let You Buy iPads and Other Electronics for Under $40

Few things match the thrill of getting an incredible deal on an item we really crave. It’s a basic human response that we all can relate to.
That’s why auctions are so much fun – they present the titillating chance of scoring something for a lot less than we would expect. And that leaves us feeling great, because we now have the object of our desire and we have money left in our pocket.
Marketers know this and exploit it all the time –hence the profusion of sales, discounts, coupons, and the like… so much so, in fact, that we become numb to the tactic. People just don’t believe they’re really getting a bargain.
But now there’s a new online company that has actually figured out a way to sell new must-have consumer products for jaw-dropping prices.
It’s called QuiBids – and it turns out that they are selling everything from the latest new Apple iPads and iPods, to MAC and PC notebooks, to HDTV’s and gift cards from the top retailers at prices as low as 5% of regular retail prices.
Now, of course, anyone in their right mind would be skeptical of such a claim – so we looked into it to learn just how they do it.
It turns out that both the prices and the products are real. QuiBids runs a unique version of the traditional auction - when you bid on an item you actually get charged a small fee of about 60 cents. Collectively, the amount collected for all of the bids on an item allows the company to sell the item at a price far below actual retail and even below the wholesale price they paid the manufacturer for it.
Figuring out how many bids to place and when to place them involves a little strategy but on QuiBids it’s actually a lot of fun. Each auction has a strict time limit and when you place your bid, the system adds a little time to the auction to see if any other bids come in. If you have the winning bid when the clock runs out – you win the item for that price. According to QuiBids CEO Matt Beckham, “Thousands of people are trying QuiBids every day – and then coming back again and again - so we must be doing something right.”
For the auction winner, the true cost of the item is slightly higher than their winning bid price because they have also spent a little for their bids, but this amount is usually modest, and the savings still work out to be spectacular in most cases.
And then there’s the “Buy Now” feature. This allows bidders who did not win an auction to still buy the product they want and apply the cost of the bids they placed as a discount on the regular product price. So, you still get the item and the bids you placed previously in the auction don’t cost you anything.
So, if you want real deals - like a new iPad for under $34, a new Nikon Digital SLR Camera for less than $24 or a new 46” LED HDTV for under $25 – check out the action at QuiBids.

To address the problem of malnutrition among children, especially those of school age, the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has proposed the introduction of school feeding as a pilot scheme in Sokoto State and the Federal Capital Territory in the 2014 budget.
This was disclosed by the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Dr. Akinwumi Adesina, while presenting a performance review of Millennium Development Goals (MDGs)-funded intervention programmes and projects of the Ministry between 2011 and 2013, as well as proposals for 2014 under the ministry’s proposed appropriation to the House of Representatives Committee on MDGs.
The Minister noted that almost one out of every six children born in Nigeria die before the age of five, adding that malnutrition is a major cause of mortality and morbidity among children under five years, as well as pregnant women.

Why Abacha Got A Centenary Award - By Reuben Abati

Why Abacha Got A Centenary Award - By Reuben Abati

Posted by kenneth uche on March 8, 2014 at 8:00 AM

The Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Dr. Reuben Abati, has defended the posthumous award given to Abacha during Nigeria’s centenary celebration last week. And according to him,  the award was not meant to celebrate moral virtues.
A cross section of Nigerians had questioned the government for honouring some controversial recipients, one of whom was Abacha. Even Nobel Laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka, rejected his nomination for the centenary award, saying he could not share the award with Abacha, who he described as a “murderer and thief of no redeeming quality”.
Abati told Saturday PUNCH:
“This (award) does not in any means translate to supporting sharp practices or corrupt practices. It is important to make the clear distinction in this regard. The centenary award, like every award, has its own criteria. That centenary award was in relation to the amalgamation, the national unity, the history of Nigeria and the roles played by certain individuals. The centenary award was not a test of sainthood.
In giving the award to the former Head of State, Gen. Abacha, the committee in charge made it very clear that the award in the category in which the former Head of State appeared was awarded with regard to the
contributions of those individuals in keeping Nigeria together. You will find out that under that category, there were largely former Heads of State, persons who have at one time or the other presided over Nigeria and under whose watch, in spite of whatever challenges they might have faced, helped to sustain the unity of the country and helped to defend the integrity and sovereignty of the country. That was a specific criterion in this particular category. Of course, every award at all, be it for beauty or any other thing has its own criteria.
Abacha was honoured during the nation’s centenary award last Friday under the category of “outstanding promoters of unity, patriotism and national development.” The reason given for his nomination was that “he took over power when the nation was on the brink of precipice. He mobilised the nation’s most prominent political class into his cabinet and succeeded in ensuring the continued unity of the nation. He also raised Nigeria’s international standing for his peace keeping military interventions in Sierra Leone and Liberia.”

A major search has been launched for a Malaysian Airlines jet with 239 people on board after it lost contact flying from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing.

Airline officials admitted they were gravely concerned for the safety of the aircraft, which was carrying four Americans and seven Australians, as well as passengers from France and China.

Crying relatives of Chinese passengers on board the plane wept at Beijing airport as it became clear the jet had probably crashed.

An unconfirmed report on a flight tracking website said the aircraft had plunged 650ft and changed course shortly before all contact was lost.

The route would have taken flight MH370, a B777-200 aircraft, across the Malaysian mainland in a north-easterly direction and then across the Gulf of Thailand.
Those on board included two infants and 12 crew members, Malaysian Airlines said in a statement, adding it was working with all authorities in the region and search and rescue teams had been mobilized.

As well as the American and Australian passengers, the aircraft was carrying 153 Chinese, 38 Malaysians, 12 Indonesians and 32 people from France.
The aircraft had been due to land in Beijing at 6.30am local time but at 7.54am the airline issued a statement saying it had not landed and was officially missing.

Aviation experts said that if the report of the aircraft suddenly plunging was correct it could be due to a number of factors.

Iyanya Speaks on Yvonne Nelson, His Fluctuating Relationship Status & Criticism

Posted by Kenneth Uche on March 5, 2014 at 3:00 PM
Nigerian music star Iyanya reveals in an interview with iCampus Newspaper, the scoop on his relationship status, his ex Yvonne Nelson and criticism. Read excerpts below:

On Nollywood: “I respect a lot of directors of some movies I have seen recently. Also Nollywood actors and actresses who have gone into producing their own movies have done well for themselves. But I feel like our stories are too predictable, no disrespect. There’s no suspense. I feel like you can just watch a Nollywood movie that you have never seen or heard of and tell the way it’s going to end before it does. But trust me; if any director partners with me to do a movie, it will be awesome.”
On filming a movie with Yvonne Nelson: “I have never been with her on a movie set so I don’t know how comfortable I will be.”
On if he’ll be comfortable shooting with her: “I don’t have any problem. I am doing business. I am not here for celebration or family ties. If you want me to do a movie with anybody, pay me and I will do it.”

On a sex scene with Yvonne Nelson: “I didn’t say that oh. It’s you that said it oh. I said pay me. Later I go see am for twitter that Iyanya said he will do a sex scene with Yvonne Nelson then the girl go come dey talk nonsense on top Twitter. Abeg oh!”
On Nigerian music today: “Nigerian music is music right now. I’ve travelled a lot and I’ve seen things. When they play Nigerian songs, I see the reaction. Our music has put Nigeria on the map; it’s one of the reasons many people know Nigeria. Its high time artistes get the support that they deserve. You don’t know what it means when Nigerians sell out O2 arena, or when Chinese people or white people are doing moves to Kukere? If you google it now, you will be amazed. We will be taking over the world.”
On relationship status: “Oh boy, it’s the two these days. Sometimes I am single; sometimes I’m in a relationship. You fit see me tomorrow and I go tell you say, “Oh boy, I don break up oh.” I fit wake up say I no do again. Then next tomorrow, I can be in a relationship. The thing just dey fluctuate. It’s not a do or die thing. Relationship isn’t what I’m after right now, I’m after the money. My problem is to make money and have like 20 houses in this Lagos – Island and Mainland. I want house for London, everywhere, so when people talk too much, I go just comot go my house for London go chill. How many relationship dey last without money? I’m just a natural guy. I’m a real Gee.”
On his fans: “I love my fans. I pray they keep believing. I pray they keep praying for me. I pray they see me as human. The fact that I am Iyanya doesn’t mean I can’t make mistakes. They should know that, and correct me constructively. They should not just start abusing me on twitter. That’s childish. They abuse you and when you abuse them back it becomes an issue. I think they just want to get attention. You don’t want to know the things I ignore. If I check my twitter now, someone is abusing me. We have never met but they are abusing me. The only relationship they have with me is my song. So it’s not cool.
On the criticism: “Ehn.. person go dey inside studio dey hustle hard to do music make una happy. You go manage gather 1500 or even pay BIS for one week dey abuse person wey dey hustle. It’s not kool. They should try to understand…”

Sham bride arrested trying to marry her fourth Nigerian husband in the UK

One of UK's most prolific sham brides, Raquel Neto Furtado De Andrade, 22, has been arrested and sentenced to two years in prison after trying to marry her fourth husband...a Nigerian.
According to the UK Daily Mail, Raquel, who had already married three Nigerians to help give them the right to stay in the UK was caught just minutes before she could marry her fourth husband.
Suspicious staff at the registry noticed she'd been there previously to wed other men and used the same wedding dress at each ceremony. And after she was arrested, records showed she hadn't even bothered to formally divorce previous husbands before marrying a new one...for money.
The fourth groom, a 32-year-old Nigerian (pictured above), was arrested with her and has been deported.
UK Immigration is now looking for her three other husbands so they can be deported too.
As for Rachel, she is now behind bars serving a two-year sentence and will be deported to her native Portugal on her release from prison.
